Express Plumbing Heating & Air Blog

One of our greatest fears is dropping our rings down the drain. Most of us will take it off to shower or wash dishes. Accidents happen, but let’s try and avoid the headache. It’s not that far of a stretch, considering most rings cost more than a few months’ rent or mortgage! Fear not, there are steps you can take to get that ring back before anyone loses their cool.

First and foremost, do not run any more water down the drain! It could be in the p-trap. This fixture is specifically designed to catch debris and prevent clogs. Curved and under your sink. Place a bucket underneath this. Place some towels under the bucket, could get messy!

If you have an older plumbing system, this could be very easy. There may be an access plug on the p-trap. Pull that out and let the water pour out into the bucket. Then, dive on in and see if you can locate the ring in the water. Once you’ve found it, replace the plug and run some water through your pipes to ensure that it is properly sealed up and not leaking.

If there is no access plug, you’ll need to take the p-trap apart with wrenches. I say “you’ll”, but what I mean is that it is time to call in the pros. You don’t want to end up with a lost ring and a sink you can’t fix! It’s best at this point to let a plumber handle it, and don’t worry! This happens to everyone and most plumbers will recognize this as an emergency.

Don’t get caught with a lost ring or a sink you can’t use! Call Express Plumbing Heating & Air today, and we’ll get you back on your way to marital bliss before the fight even starts!
