There are five plumbing issues that are most common. These include clogged drains, clogged toilets, leaky faucets, low water pressure, and running toilets. Even though these issues may seem simple sometimes they can turn into a big mess. With the proper maintenance, however, you could cut the chances of having one of these happening in your home.

Keep hair out of the sink, shower, or tub. This will help prevent a clogged drain. Hair can easily fall through the drain and build up over time causing a clog. Do not pour cooking grease or coffee grounds into the disposal. Pour them in the trash instead. These two substances can build up really easily and cause a blockage in the drain. Keeping them out of your drains will keep them from clogging your system. A good way to clean the drains is to throw a handful of baking soda down, followed by letting hot water run. Baking soda is a great effective way to clean drains without using harsh chemicals.

Keeping your toilet from getting clogs takes a few simple steps as well. An easy way to clog the toilet is to overuse toilet paper, so be sure to be conservative. Also, make sure that items that shouldn’t go in the toilet don’t end up in the toilet. Your toilet is not a trash can. If you notice that your water is draining slower than usual as you flush that indicates a small clog. Don’t wait until the small clog won’t allow any water to go down at all. It’s best to deal with the problem right away. It’s best to plunge it before one day the water won’t go down at all. Before you know it, your toilet will be flooding your bathroom!

Leaky faucets can be a result of multiple plumbing issues. Clean your faucets regularly. Also, check them over time. That includes the pipes under the sink. Low water pressure is also a sign that a leaky faucet may be going on throughout the night. Make sure the faucet is tightened down to the sink to prevent this. Make sure that the washers and O-rings are up to date.

Having low water pressure is no fun for anyone. This plumbing issue happens very often whether it’s in the shower, tub, or sink. One reason that could be causing this is debris building up in your pipes. Fractured pipes allowing sand and dirt to enter can cause this. Mineral build-up from the water can cause a small blockage as well. That causes low water pressure. One thing people may forget about or overlook is checking the water meter. It’s always a good idea to check to make sure it’s all the way up, just in case.

Running toilets can be annoying if the problem isn’t fixed right away. One of the top reasons why toilets run is the flapper in your toilet either needs to be replaced or repaired. Another reason for your toilet to be running is the water level. It is a cause of the water draining into the overflow tube which happens when the water tank is too high. Lowering your water level could solve this issue.
